— A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR —
The Lord has truly blessed me with “a goodly heritage.” I had the opportunity to grow up in a Christian home where there was never a question as to where we would be when it was time for church. However, I learned very early that I was a sinner in need of a Savior, and one Sunday I went forward at the invitation and the preacher showed me in the Bible how I could be saved. I trusted Christ to save me and was later baptized in that small country church in Redfield, KS.
When I was a young teenager, I went to a youth conference in Oklahoma City, where I answered God’s call on my life to preach the gospel. When my pastor congratulated me, he told me to get my first message ready to preach in church, which was good advice and a great opportunity, but it scared me to death! However, after stumbling through that first message, God whet my appetite for preaching, and I have loved doing it ever since.
In 1997, I married my pastor’s granddaughter, who had been called to be a preacher’s wife at the same youth conference where God called me to preach. I graduated from Bible college in 1998, and God led us to Mountain View Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL, where we served under Dr. Michael Rouse as the music and youth pastor for over 14 years. While we were perfectly content there, we could sense God stirring in our hearts to follow his plan for our lives. God revealed to us in October of 2012 that Heritage Baptist Church was where He wanted us, and we have loved serving Him with the dear people here. We are excited about what the Lord has in store in future days for our church. I hope that you will come and see for yourself the great things God is doing at Heritage Baptist Church!
Love in Christ,
